Management

Mr. Sanjay G. Ubale - Managing Director & CEO

Mr. Sanjay G. Ubale is the Managing Director and CEO of Tata Realty and Infrastructure Limited (TRIL). TRIL is engaged in the development of Highways, Bridges, Urban Mass Transit, Logistics, Water Supply & Waste Water Systems and Airports in addition to the development of large real estate projects that include commercial office buildings, retail malls, hotels and serviced apartments.

In his career spanning over 25 years, Mr. Ubale held some key positions in the Government by virtue of being a part of the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS). His last assignment in the Government was that of Secretary, Special Projects. Its mandate was to develop a vision and an action plan for the development of Mumbai city into a world-class Metropolis.

Mr. Ubale holds a Masters degree in Management, as also in Development Studies from Bombay University (India) and University of Bath (UK) respectively.

Mr. Arvind Chokhany - Chief Financial Officer

Arvind Chokhany is the Chief Financial Officer of Tata Realty and Infrastructure Limited (TRIL). He has over 20 years of Banking and Fund Management experience, having worked with large Local and Global Banks. He brings with him extensive experience in Finance Operations, On-shore and Off-shore Capital structuring, Mergers & Acquisitions, Raising strategic investments, structured debt/ equity deployment, Inbound and Outbound acquisitions, and monetization through stake dilution and Joint ventures through mezzanine and equity structures. He has excellent domain knowledge of local and international legal, taxation, and regulatory guidelines.

Mr Chokhany has significant experience in Greenfield and Brownfield Asset acquisitions, Portfolio and asset management, and orchestrating timely exits for large Global Funds, due to his strong Corporate Banking & Investment Management background. He has extensive experience in Leadership Roles with Standard Chartered Bank and Deutsche Bank in India and overseas, having managed large complex asset portfolio, spanning various geographies, including mergers and acquisitions and various cross border complex transactions. He has a deep understanding of Real Estate and Infrastructure Sector.

Mr. Chokhany is a Chartered Accountant and Cost Accountant by qualification and recipient of national awards in both the examinations.

Mr. Sharad M. Sabnis - Senior Vice President

Mr. Sharad M. Sabnis is Senior Vice President – Infrastructure Projects at Tata Realty and Infrastructure Limited (TRIL).

Mr. Sharad M. Sabnis is a distinguished highway professional with over thirty three years of experience. He obtained his degrees of B. Tech. and M. Tech. in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. A direct recruit to the Maharashtra Service of Engineers (Class I), he worked in various capacities in the Public Works Department of Government of Maharashtra including that of the Secretary of the department. He worked on various projects like the Bandra -Worli Sea Link, Eastern Freeway and the Sahar Elevated Road in Mumbai. He has worked in the design, construction and the National Highway wings of the Public Works Department of the Government of Maharashtra and as Chief Engineer with the MSRDC and MMRDA.

Mr. Sabnis is the recipient of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary Award instituted by the Indian Roads Congress and the Outstanding Engineer Award of the Government of Maharashtra. He is the member of professional organizations such as the Indian Roads Congress. He has authored over twelve articles in national and international journals.

Mr. Prakash Patil - Vice President, Projects ( Real Estate )

Mr. Prakash Patil is Vice President – Projects (Real Estate) of Tata Realty and Infrastructure Limited (TRIL). He is part of the Senior Management at TRIL. He has expertise in Project Management, Construction Management, monitoring & execution of Real Estate projects.

Prior to joining TRIL, Mr. Patil was working with GCorp Properties Pvt. Ltd as General Manager (Technical).

He has also worked for SembCorp Infrastructure India Pvt. Ltd from 1997 to 2005. He has been associated with Real Estate builders like Rizvi Builders, Som Datt Builders etc. as part of his previous experience in the sector.

He is a Civil Engineer from Pune University.

Mr. G. Anantharaman - Special Advisor to the Chairman

Mr. G. Anantharaman belongs to the Indian Revenue Service (Income-tax 1968), and has worked in various senior capacities in the Revenue Service of the Government of India before retiring as Chief Commissioner of Income-tax - Mumbai in June 2004.

Mr. Anantharaman has handled several tax fraud cases and matters relating to tax administration. He was also one of those who were instrumental in developing the Anti-Money Laundering Draft provisions in the Indian context in 1995-96.

Subsequently, on retirement from the Indian Revenue Service, he joined the Capital Market Regulator, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), as a Whole Time Member, in charge of Surveillance, Investigations and Market Regulations. He continued to occupy the said position till 13th March, 2008.

Mr. Rusty J. Treasuryvala - Vice President - Airports

Mr. Rusty J. Treasuryvala is the Vice President – Airports at Tata Realty And Infrastructure Limited (TRIL). He is a qualified commercial pilot with over 31 years of experience in airport operations and airport management (specially as Airport Director for 16 years).

As Airport Director of Calcutta, Mumbai and Chennai airports, he was responsible for the operations and administration of the entire airport, including dealings with other airlines and the public. The post required him to be the Chairman of several Airport inter-organizational committees, such as :

  • Airport Security Committee

  • Airport Facilitation Committee

  • Cargo facilitation committee

  • Bomb threat review committee

As Executive Director (operations) at the headquarters of Airports Authority of India, New Delhi, he was responsible for the entire operational activities of all the Metro airports. He was responsible for allotment of parking bays to scheduled and non- scheduled airlines for management of slot allotment to airlines and for evaluating passenger opinion surveys to improve ratings for enhanced customer satisfaction.

In April 2005, was appointed “Team Leader” for the Indo European Union “on security and safety” and led the Indian delegation to Paris, Manchester and Toulouse airports.

Mr. Harshwardhan Gajbhiye - Special Economic Zone

Mr. Harshawardhan M. Gajbhiye, is a distinguished retired IAS Officer with over forty years of experience. He has a M.A (Geography) from Nagpur University, and a Diploma in Cooperative Business Administration (DCBA) from Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management, Pune.

Mr. Gajbhiye brings with him experience in the field of regulatory policy making and its administration. In the capacity of being the head of various Government departments and organizations, his work responsibilities included strategic identification, development, implementation, and management of projects such as, the development of agro-processing industry in the state, including the establishment of a ‘Food Park’ at Butibori, Nagpur, the International Flower Market at Mumbai, management and marketing of public sector manufacturing units, and civic administration, town-planning and development of infrastructure such as roads, water supply and electricity, etc. During his tenure, Mr. Gajbhiye had also held other key positions such as, Municipal Commissioner for city of Aurangabad, and Additional Commissioner of Sales Tax for Maharashtra state, etc.

His last assignment before joining TRIL was as Sr. Vice-President at Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC), a Government of Maharashtra undertaking. Here, he was involved designing, developing, and delivering the methodology to successfully implement the SEZ Act & Rules for the Multi-modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) SEZ from the notification stage to the operational stage.

Mr. Pawan Kant - Chief Executive Officer – TRIL Roads Pvt. Ltd.

Mr. Pawan Kant joined the company since its inception in 2007. He has spearheaded multiple functions in the company,as Business Head - SEZ division; the Project Management division and is currently mandated to grow TRIL Roads Private Limited, the road holding platform of TRIL, as its CEO.

With 25 years of hands-on experience in the core Infrastructure and Real Estate industry, he has worked across the gamut including Strategic & Business Planning, M&A, Business Development, Project execution & Operations, Planning, Contract & Commercial Management, Re-engineering initiatives, tendering & estimationin India,Middle East and Singapore. Prior to working with the Tata’s, he has worked in reputed organizations such as Hindustan Construction Company, Singapore Technologies & Great Eastern Shipping Co.

His notable achievements include :

  • Project bidding and winning road contracts under various models – EPC, cash contracts, BOT Annuity and the BOT Toll models.

  • Acquisition of road concessions including DD, valuations, negotiations & SHA.

  • Project conceptualization to execution of ~ 8 million sq.ft. ofIT/ITES SEZ, mixed use Real Estatedevelopment with capital cost of Rs.6000 crore.

  • Business planning for a 3000 acre industrial SEZ.

  • Creating and profitably establishing the Program Management Business unit including partnering with renowned consultants & Vendor Development.

  • As a core team member, successfully structured and delivered ~ 4 million sq. ft. of IT SEZ on a unique model of project delivery – “Alliancing”. This was the first such model adopted in India.

  • Rolling out organization wide 5 year Business plans and re-engineering of Procurement, Finance, Business Development and equipment divisions at a core contracting company.

  • International Business Development including country studies, identify sponsor partners and bidding.

  • Core construction team member on the $ 207 million JTC Stack-up Industrial project in Singapore.

  • Country representative for Disaster Resource Network, a World Economic Forum initiative. Participated in relief operations for J & K and Bhuj earthquakes & the Mumbai floods.

  • Represented the Corporate Sector from India at the International convention of ADRC- UN OCHA, Kobe, Japanin 2003.

He is Diploma and Degree holder in Construction Technology with Masters in Business Administration and has attended advanced program in Construction Contract Management from NTU, Singapore.

Mr. Alok Kapoor - Chief Operating Officer - Urban Transport

Mr. Alok Kapoor joined Tata Realty and Infrastructure Limited on 1st August, 2011. He is working as the Business & Technical Head for development of PPP & BOT Projects in Urban Transport and Railway verticals in the following key areas :

  • Metro Projects

  • Urban Ropeway Projects

  • Light Rail Projects

  • Railway Station Modernisation

He is presently executing two key PPP Ropeway Projects in Himachal Pradesh viz. Dharamshala – Mcleodganj and Palchan – Rohtang (Manali).

As part of his previous work experience in the Railways Mr. Alok has played an instrumental role in the execution of the following Railway projects :

  • Mumbai Urban Transport Project funded by World Bank with a loan of 250 Million USD and counterpart Government fund of 250 Million USD. Under this project 1764 EMU coaches were procured. Mr. Alok has experience in making International Competitive Bid Documents finalizing the Contract, Design approvals, Prototype Testing, Field Trails and manufacturing issues.

  • He was responsible for department’s compliance with World Bank procurement guidelines with specific experience of preparation of Bid Documents, Pre Bid Meetings, Bid Evaluation Contract Documents and Contract Execution.

  • Has the knowledge of bidding, financing and execution of PPP and BOT projects in Urban Transport and Railways

  • EMU and Rolling Stock manufacture

  • Railways Electrification Project

  • System Design and System Engineering of Phase 3, IGBT based Microprocessor Controlled Traction System for EMU Rolling Stock

  • Worked as In-charge of Rolling Stock maintenance and operations of 800 coaches in Mumbai Suburban System

Mr. Hari Subrahmanian - Head – Human Resources

Mr. Hari Subrahmanian joined the Tata Group in 1997 after successfully completing his Short Service Commission tenure with the Indian Air Force as Flight Lieutenant. He heads Human Resources at Tata Realty and Infrastructure Limited since 2008 and has been instrumental in its organisational build up into a versatile and diverse organisation. Mr. Hari is a ‘Tata Group’ resource since 1997 under the Tata Group Mobility plan and has previously held HR leadership positions in Tata Group Companies like Tata Services Limited, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited and Tata Global Beverages Limited (Mount Everest Mineral Water Limited).

His 20+ years of work experience across sectors like Telecom, FMCG, Corporate Services, Real Estate and Infrastructure and 6 years in the Defence Services has helped bringing agility and varied insights to business environment while maintaining the ‘Tata Value System’ and ‘Culture’ while doing so.

Mr. Hari has done Masters in Personnel Management and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Mr. Vinay Gaokar - Assistant Vice President & Company Secretary

Mr. Vinay Gaokar is the Assistant Vice President & Company Secretary of Tata Realty and Infrastructure Limited (TRIL). He joined TRIL in October, 2008.

Mr. Gaokar has more than 33 years of experience in the Secretarial & Legal field. He looks after Secretarial compliance of TRIL and its subsidiary companies as well as the companies whose projects are being developed by TRIL.

  • Prior to joining TRIL, for four and half years, he was with Vedanta Group as its Group Company Secretary – Sterlite Group, and also for a part of period, as Company Secretary of Vedanta Aluminum Limited.

  • For two and half years, he was with JSW Group, as Company Secretary of its flagship Company JSW Steel Limited (Erstwhile Jindal Iron & Steel Company Limited).

  • For ten and half years, he was in the diversified Engineer conglomerate of India, Larsen & Toubro Limited, as Manager in its Corporate Secretarial Department.

  • Prior to this, he spent approximately 4 years at Garware Shipping Corporation Limited and 4 years with Thomas Cook (India) Limited, in Secretarial and Legal Department of these companies.

Mr. Gaokar is a B.Com, LL.B, and Associate Company Secretary (ACS).
